DAY 1: DONG HOI TO PHONG NHA
We'll start at 8:00am from your hotel in Dong Hoi and ride along the coast to Phong Nha, leaving behind the other tourist and getting far from the noisy traffic of Vietnam. We'll take our time to enjoy what the countryside has to offer as we drive past amazing sand dunes and local fishing villages. We visit a local market to understand more about the life of local people and will stop for lunch at local restaurant. In the afternoon we travel along small beautiful roads through many small villages. You'll be constantly surprised by the beautiful views, rice paddies and the water buffalo, and locals that we pass along the way. We'll stop at the Phong Nha cave (the longest cave in Southeast Asia). Designated a Unesco World Heritage site in 2003, the remarkable Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park contains the oldest karst mountains in Asia, formed approximately 400 million years ago. Riddled with hundreds of cave systems – many of extraordinary scale and length – and spectacular underground rivers, Phong Nha is heaven on earth.
Afterwards we'll continue on to arrive at Phong Nha village around 4:00pm and stay overnight at a hotel. You'll have ample time to walk around and explore the the village.
DAY 2: PHONG NHA TO KHE SANH
We'll have the chance to see the real Ho Chi Minh trail, with its mind-blowing spectacular scenery. We travel through old growth jungle, and mountain ranges with waterfalls and stops at local hill tribe villages on the way, as well as historic relics of the Vietnam war.
We travel west from Phong Nha village along the Ho Chi Minh trail through the National park and along the border between Laos and Vietnam. We'll travel over 200km and you'll only a handful of other motorbikes – but a lot of beautiful and peaceful mountain views. We'll get off the bikes and take a short trek to enjoy the sounds and the fresh smell of original old growth forest. We stop for picnic lunch near a spring before continuing on to visit the hill tribe village of Paco and then a stop at Khe Sanh compass base. We'll have dinner and stay overnight at a hotel in Khe Sanh.
DAY 3: KHE SANH TO HUE
The motorbike ride to Hue today is most from West to East we will ride along Highway 9. On this drive we'll pass famous historical Vietnam war sites such as Dakrong bridge, Rock Pile and Doc Mieu base. We visit Truong Son national cemetery (the biggest cemetery in Vietnam) to pay respect with the soldiers sacrificed in war. From here we cross the former border between North and South Vietnam at the 17th parallel and arrive at the Vinh Moc tunnel where the villagers dug tunnels to move their village 23 meters underground to survive the war. We'll stop for lunch at Cua Viet beach where you can cool off with a swim before we continue our drive along the beautiful coastline and arrive in Hue around 4:30pm.
DAY 4: HUE CITY TOUR
Today we'll have a relaxing day as we drive around the ancient Hue city. We'll visit many famous sites such as Citadel, Thien Mu pagoda and Tu Duc tomb before stopping for a Traditional Hue lunch. In the afternoon we visit Thanh Toan bridge and the farm museum before heading back to the hotel.
DAY 5: HUE TO HOI AN
After breakfast we get out the city and head out on the road again. We'll pass through fishing villages and rice paddies avoiding the main highway for as long as possible on the way to Hoi An. We take a stop at the Elephant spring, where you can cool off for swim before we continue on to Lang Co lagoon and beach for lunch. We then ride up to the top of Hai Van pass where you have amazing view of both sides, before riding through Da Nang to visit Marble mountain and China beach, arriving at Hoi An around 4:30 pm.
